William DeBorbon Memorial - Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, PA.

This beautiful gazebo is located in the historic Charles Evans Cemetery, in Reading, PA. According to an inscription inside the gazebo, it was a gift donated by William DeBorbon.

William DeBorbon was born in Louisiana. At the age of 12 his father died and he was sent by his family to Pennsylvania for schooling.

After a few years of moving, he settled in Reading, PA. During his adult years, he bought a hotel at the corner of Fifth and Penn streets. Today this location is considered the square or center of town.

William never married, he worked very hard in life and was financially successful. He was on the Charles Evans Cemetery Board of Directors and had the gazebo built in 1886. He died in 1892 and is buried in Charles Evans Cemetery.
