Whistler’s Mother Statue - Ashland, PA

In 1937 at the annual Ashland Boy’s Association homecoming they sought a way to honor Ashland mothers. The sculpture was based upon James McNeil Whistler’s famous 1871 painting - “Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter’s Mother”.

On Sept. 4, 1938 the 8 foot, three-ton granite statue was unveiled by Ashland’s oldest mothers, one 88 and one 91 years. It honors all mothers, past and present and is known as the Mother’s Memorial.

Located at: Hoffman Blvd., Ashland, PA
