It is said that George Washington visited Lebanon in 1792 to inspect the Union Canal Tunnel and visited the Swan Hotel in downtown Lebanon. History states that he used the home as a temporary headquarters during the Revolution. Washington also stopped while on his way to the western part of the state to suppress an uprising by farmers refusing to pay tax on liquor they made during the Whiskey Rebellion.
The tavern which was built in 1760 is currently up for sale.
