We took a self-guided tour of the outdoor sculpture ecological features called Woodmere’s Outdoor Wonder or WOW at Tobin Museum in Quakertown, PA.
There are six acres to explore among industrial buildings. You can use your smartphone to follow the map or pick up a printed copy from the box on the front porch.
Inside the museum there are exhibits such as a wall of ceramic pizzas created for celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, a forest of glass towers, exploded pots and clay works and much more.
Steve Tobin is a Philadelphia renowned sculpture artist. The sculptures at Woodmere are his first work in a public space in Quakertown. Tobin’s most famous bronze sculpture in the US is his Trinity Root, a cast of the stump of a sycamore tree that was smashed by debris during the September 11 terrorist attacks in NYC. The large canopy of the 70-year-old tree helped shield St. Paul’s Chapel, part of Trinity Church, from the blast. That sculpture now resides in Connecticut.
