Schubert Haus - Mertztown, PA
The Schubert Haus (means house in German) was built in 1844 and was used as a school, parsonage and sexton’s home.
William Schubert, organist, justice of the peace, teacher, civil engineer, notary public, artist and prominent citizen, lived in the farmhouse adjacent to the church. Mr. Schubert was an organist for 52 years at the Longswamp Union Church, 22 years at the Zion Lehigh Church in Lower Macungie and 15 years at St. Paul’s Union Church, Mertztown. (The numbers don’t add up but this is the information we found while researching. We believe he played the organ at several churches at the same time).
Currently this home is used by the Longswamp Township Historical Society and houses local historical items.
