Updated: Sep 28, 2021
The Rachel Carson Bridge, in Downtown Pittsburgh, is also known as the ninth street bridge and spans the Allegheny River.
The bridge was named for the naturalist and author, Rachel Carson, a Pittsburgh native. This is one of the “Three Sisters” bridges that are parallel to each other. The other two are the Robert Clemente bridge and the Andy Warhol bridge. They are nearly identical, as well as the first self-anchored suspension spans built in the U.S.
