Pep Boys - Philadelphia, PA

In 1921 four friends from the Navy, Emanuel “Manny” Rosenfeld, Maurice “Moe” Strauss, Moe Radavitz and W.Graham “Jack” Jackson chipped in $200 and started an auto accessories business at 7-11 North 63rd Street in West Philadelphia.

They named their business Pep Auto Supply Company after Moe saw a carton of Pep Valve Grinding compound. The name eventually changed to Pep Boys because a police officer told people to visit the boys at Pep.

During the depression in 1929, Pep Boys did not lay off any of their employees or cut wages.

In 2021 the Pep Boys turned 100 with 8,300 service bays at 930 locations in 35 US states, as well as Puerto Rico.
