Nitro Girl: Uniroyal SuperGal - Blackwood, NJ
Nitro Girl has stood outside of Werbany Tire Town since 1965. She stands 18 feet tall and was purchased for $300. She originally was known as “The Doll'' and was dressed in a green top and turquoise skirt and was a Jackie Kennedy look-alike.
In July 2007, Ed Jr. hired two artists, Karen Baxter and Linda M. Shelley to give “The Doll” a makeover. The makeover was a mix of Super Girl and Wonder Woman. She was given the name Nitro Girl and had stars designed on her hair and skirt, along with boots and gloves with a more confident face expression.
We heard that Ed. Jr. was selling Nitro Girl Bobbleheads. Unfortunately the bobbleheads were no longer available but an employee of 50 years gave us a Nitro Girl calendar.
