Updated: Nov 2, 2021
Melcher’s Grist Mill was built in 1888 in Bally, PA and moved to the Berks County Heritage Center in 1985. The small building played a big role in the life of the Melcher family from the 1880s through the 1950s. The Melchers’ used the water-powered mill for family use to mill various grains into animal feed and corn into cornmeal thru the use of a millstone. The mill provided power for the outside hoist, bone mill, sausage stuffing machine, corn sheller, wooden wash tub and meat grinder. Melcher’s Grist Mill is among many complete and well-preserved grist mills still standing.
You can tour Melchers’ Grist Mill at the Berks County Heritage Center in Reading, PA.
