James Dean Sites - Fairmont, IN
Updated: Sep 7, 2022
James Dean sites around Fairmount, Indiana - James Dean Memorial Park, Friends Church where his funeral service was held, Carter’s Motorcycle Shop where he purchased his first motorcycle and James and his families final resting place. James' tombstone has been stolen several times, found and reinstalled.
The Winslow Farm - James Byron Dean was born February 8, 1931, the only child of Winton and Mildred Dean of Marion, IN. When he was 5 years old they moved to Santa Monica, CA.
James’ mother died at the age of 29 of uterine cancer when James was 9 years old. Unable to care for his son, James’ father sent him to live with his sister Ortense and her husband, Marcus Winslow on their farm in Fairmont Indiana and he was raised in their Quaker household.
James Dean’s cousin still lives on the farm. The family that owns the property is ok with you driving down the driveway and taking photos as long as you don’t knock on their door and disturb them.
