High Line - New York, NY

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

The High Line is a public park built on a 1.45 mile-long historic freight rail line elevated above the streets from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street on Manhattan's West Side.

The old elevated railway line dates back to 1934. It was was built to transport goods to the different deposits that were located along the western part of the Island.

It was saved from demolition by the neighborhood residents and the City of New York. In 2009, the High Line opened as a hybrid public space where visitors experience nature, art, and a chance to be outside enjoying a beautiful day in the city.
