Harry Kalas was born March 26, 1936 and died April 13, 2009.
Harry started his major-league career in 1965 with the Houston Astros baseball broadcast team. He announced for the Houston Astros from 1965-1970. He was hired by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1971 and was the master of ceremonies at the 1971 opening of the Veterans Stadium. Mr. Kalas was named Pennsylvania Sportscaster of the Year 18 times. He was also inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster’s wing in 2002.
Harry is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery. His gravesite is marked by a large microphone monument and seats from Veterans Stadium.
