Claussville One-Room Schoolhouse - Orefield, PA

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

On a chilly day in 2020, we went to visit the Claussville one-room schoolhouse. The historic red brick schoolhouse is located off Route 100, in Lowhill Township, Lehigh County, Orefield, PA and was built in 1893.

There were between 20 and 40 children at the school on a daily basis when it was operating and seating for 56 students. All grade levels were in the same room & taught by the same teacher.

It was one of the last operating schoolhouses, but you would never know it, as all the contents still remain in the schoolhouse today.

The schoolhouse is operated by the Lehigh County Historical Society and is open by appointment only. For tours of the schoolhouse, visit their website at: http://www.lehighvalleyheritagemuseum.org/
