Charles Evans Cemetery - Reading, PA
The Charles Evans Cemetery was founded in 1846 by Charles Evans, a prominent lawyer and philanthropist. Mr. Evans donated the first 25 acres and $2000.00.
Charles Evans is buried near the entrance of the cemetery he founded; a life-size statue is an enduring memorial to his vision and generosity.
The stunning entrance was completed in 1852. This impressive structure reflects the Gothic Revival style which was popular at that time.
Today the cemetery now has 119 acres of well-maintained grounds, with more than 7 miles of paved roads which make the extensive grounds convenient to visitors.
