Bicentennial Barns - Ohio
The Ohio Bicentennial Barns were a series of events and programs held in Ohio celebrating the 200th anniversary of statehood on March 1, 2003.
There are 88 Bicentennial Barns, one in each county.
Artist, Scott Hagan, was commissioned at the age of 19 to paint at least one barn in each of the 88 counties. The project began in 1997 and was completed in September 2002. Mr. Hagan used 650 gallons of paint and traveled 65,000 miles. The last barn painted was the Sandusky County barn. Each barn cost $1500 to paint.
The last we heard all the barns are still standing except the Ottawa City barn owned by Albert Apling which was destroyed in a tornado in 1998.
